Trent Roydhouse graduated from the University of Melbourne (MBBS(Hons)), and has undertaken his ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. Since completing his registrar training, he has undertaken a fellowship in cataract and general ophthalmic surgery, along with paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus surgery at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne.
Throughout his postgraduate years, Trent has had a keen interest in maximising patient outcomes and care from both a personal and hospital perspective. He has actively participated in various committees including the Clinical Governance Committee, the Patient Safety Committee, and the Medicine Management committee at the RVEEH. He has also sat on the Medication Management Advisory Group for the Department of Health Services Victoria.
Trent has an interest in laboratory based research having previously undertaken research at the Bernard O’Brien Institute for Microsurgery in Melbourne. At this institute he was the principal investigator towards the manufacture of components of a bio-engineered cornea. This consisted of the harvesting and ex-vivo culture of autologous corneal epithelial and endothelial stem cells followed by transplantation onto an animal model. Such techniques were utilised to effect in a number of patients with limbal stem cell deficiency at the RVEEH.
He will be happy to undertake care for patients with most ophthalmic conditions including cataract, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, oculoplastics and paediatric eye conditions.
